Notes From The President
Dear Friends of Mama Tara,
The Mama Tara Miskito orphanage Board has so much to be thankful to the Lord for! It is amazing how much can be accomplished with willing hands and loving hearts.
In November, we had such a wonderful time filling shoeboxes with Christmas gifts for the children. Each child received a gift from a friend and from their sponsor. People from Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and North Carolina participated! It was great watching people get excited about filling their boxes with goodies and writing notes to the children. We used Dip Shipping for the first time and the boxes all arrived safely to Puerto Lempira and in time for Christmas. Thank you to all who participated in this project.
The progress on getting the deed to the land continues to move ahead! Laura and Alex Waits had the survey completed and the document stamped by the mayor of Puerto Lempira. This took a very long time to accomplish but we saw the mighty hand of God and His favor throughout this whole process.
Thanks to generous donors, we were able to send a quality heavy duty tiller and weed-eater to Mama Tara! A tiller will help immensely with the gardening at Mama Tara Orphanage and it will also be used to help others in the community put in gardens as well. Because the grass grows so fast and high around the orphanage hiding snakes and other dangers, providing a weed-eater will make the maintenance of the grounds easier and more frequent.
In October, four of our board members were able to make a trip to Mama Tara orphanage and were able to accomplish much even though we were only in Puerto Lempira for a short time. Some of the things we did were: deliver the stamped survey to La Ceiba, pray over the land, pray for each child, interview and film Mama Tara, lead a church service, make necessary staffing changes to help the orphanage run more smoothly. We were also able to measure and take photos of each person living at Mama Tara. But our greatest joy was being able to hug and encourage each one of the children.
We welcome Alex and Mainor to our staff at the orphanage. They are the watchmen/pastors who will guard the grounds by night and hold Wednesday and Sunday services for those who live at the orphanage.
As always, we thank the sponsors who are committed to supporting a child and who faithfully send their donations month after month. Several of the children are now attending Arbol De Vida in Copan for the coming school year. Please consider sponsoring a child so that she can get a good Christian education. May the Lord bless you in 2012!
In Christ Alone,
Cathy Guenard, President
