Volunteers
Are you looking for a way to serve God? We are looking for both short- and long-term Christian volunteers to go to Mama Tara’s! There are a wide variety of needs at the orphanage from construction to teaching English to giving the children Christian spiritual guidance. We welcome both teams and individual volunteers at all times of the year.
Here are the construction projects we hope to have volunteers complete this summer, God willing:
- Installing a fence around the property
- Plastering the orphanage walls
- Painting the orphanage walls
- Tiling the floors
We are also seeking a volunteer to spend 2-4 months at the orphanage supervising these construction projects. If that is of interest to you, please contact me for more information.
I spent 3 ½ months at Mama Tara’s in 2005 and 2006 and will always cherish my time with the children there. In many ways, I was being a parent to each of them, but at times, I felt like they helped and cared for me more than I did for them. They made my bed every day and always made sure I had clean clothes and sheets. They are very loving and caring children but also in need of much love and attention.
I went to Mama Tara’s knowing the children wanted to learn English, but not knowing what others needs they might have. When I arrived, several children were sick, so I spent the first several mornings taking children to the hospital. Also, many of the children did not have birth certificates, and without them they couldn’t graduate from school, so I spent a lot of time working to get them for each child. A lot of other time was spent just caring for the children- reading to them, helping them with homework, and cleaning and bandaging cuts. The specific needs vary from month to month, but you can be certain that the children always need some individual attention and love.
